As a goalkeeper, the margin for error is small.

One mistake, one misstep, one wrong decision leads to a goal for the opponent. Naturally, mistakes are inevitable and nobody in this world is perfect.

The key to being a successful goalkeeper is the same as being successful in life – accepting what has happened but moving forward in a positive way. The worst thing I can do after a mistake is dwell in that moment and sulk about my imperfection. The best thing I can do is forget about the mistake and remember the number of times I have done things right, the amount of training I have done to get me to where I am, and the amount of people that support me in good times and bad.

Listen, I’m 33 years old, and it is still difficult for me to be vulnerable and open up about some of the challenges I ’ve had throughout my life. It is important for me to accept help from others when I need it and know that I do not have to face things alone. Whether it is a partner, a family member, a coach, a teammate, a teacher, or a friend... there will always be people willing to listen and there are always people out there going through their own hardships. We are never alone in our journey. On the field I have 10 other players willing to pick me up and help me through difficult moments. In life, it is important to find those people who you feel comfortable sharing your vulnerability with.

More importantly, it is important to remember that being vulnerable is a sign of strength.
