Austin FC forward Diego Rubio was voted to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday bench for his role in the team’s 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on Wednesday at Q2 Stadium. Rubio earns his first Team of the Matchday honor of 2025.
Entering the match as a substitute in the 80th minute with the team trailing by a goal, Rubio came up with a decisive play for Austin, heading in a cross from Žan Kolmanič to level the match late. It was the fourth time in Rubio’s MLS career he has scored a result-changing goal in second half stoppage time. Across the last eight (8) seasons, no player in the league has done so more often.
