Austin FC fell in a 2-1 defeat to Nashville SC in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium.
Nashville took the lead in the 17th minute when Hany Mukhtar hit a bouncing shot into the back of the net. Austin nearly found a quick response from the penalty spot but NSC goalkeeper Brian Schwake saved the attempt.
ATXFC continued to push forward and were rewarded with an equalizer in first half stoppage time. Ilie Sánchez played Myrto Uzuni in, and the Albanian international calmly finished to the far post.
The visitors went back ahead in the 60th minute. The referee awarded a highly questionable penalty kick which Sam Surridge converted.
Despite more late attacks by the Verde & Black, Surridge’s goal held up as the winner.
