Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC defeated San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 last Saturday night, securing a crucial win in the playoff race. Designated Players Myrto Uzuni and Osman Bukari found the net in the first half. Uzuni and Owen Wolff – who set up Bukari for the opener – each have four goals and two assists since July 17.
Austin now set their eyes on Sporting Kansas City. The two teams last met in the season opener at Q2 Stadium back in February. The VERDE & Black shutout SKC 1-0 and in that game, Wolff assisted Bukari for the lone goal, beginning a connection that has often produced rewards for ATXFC this season. The pair have combined for a goal on five occasions in total and co-lead the team with 12 goal contributions each in all competitions.
ATXFC will look to build upon their recent run of form. Since June 1, the team has averaged 1.8 points per game, tied for second-most in the Western Conference. Nico Estévez’s side is also averaging more than two goals per match in its last six outings.
Sporting Kansas City Outlook
Sporting Kansas City is also coming off a home victory, defeating Colorado Rapids 4-2 last Saturday night. Dejan Joveljic contributed a brace for the home side to secure three points, who erased a late deficit with three goals in the final 20 minutes.
Sporting Kansas City is currently sitting at 13th place in the MLS Western Conference after snapping a four-match losing streak against Colorado. Joveljic has been a crucial part of the SKC roster all season – his team-leading 16 goals this year are tied for third in the MLS Golden Boot race.
Both teams have plenty to play for on Sunday Night Soccer as Austin fights to further solidify its postseason credentials and SKC aims to climb above the line.
