Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium. After a scoreless first half, both teams started the second half looking for the breakthrough goal. RSL found it in the 67th minute as Diego Luna set up Willy Agada, but Austin grabbed an equalizer in stoppage time. Žan Kolmanič, who scored the tying goal for Austin last weekend, picked out Diego Rubio with a cross which the striker headed in to earn ATXFC a point.
Austin faces a short turnaround to get ready for MLS newcomers San Diego FC. The two met earlier this season in March, ending in a 2-1 victory for the VERDE & Black on Sunday Night Soccer. Rubio was the provider in that match, assisting Brandon Vazquez for the opener before. Jon Gallagher doubled the lead shortly after. The visitors got one back, but it would not be enough to spoil Austin’s party.
Austin has drawn each of its last four league matches and will look to finish the busy stretch of games in May strong by claiming three points in the Club’s first visit to Snapdragon Stadium.
San Diego FC Outlook
San Diego FC enters Saturday off a 1-0 road defeat against Seattle Sounders FC, which ended their five-match unbeaten streak.
Despite that defeat, the team’s hot start to the season has SDFC sitting in 2nd place in the Western Conference with a record of 8-5-3. San Diego has suffered just one home defeat all season and has the most home points of any team in the West with 18. Three of the team’s five victories at Snapdragon Stadium have been by multiple-goal margins.
San Diego is currently tied for the fifth-most goals scored in the league this season (27). Chucky Lozano (five goals, six assists) and Anders Dreyer (six goals, seven assists) are the driving force behind the team’s potent attack.
