Austin FC Outlook
Austin wrapped up the regular season with 47 points, the second-highest total in its five-year history. The team also kept a Club-record nine clean sheets in 2025, a solid defensive foundation which should serve it well heading into the postseason.
ATXFC now shifts its focus to its second-ever postseason appearance. Six players remain on the roster which made the Western Conference Final in 2022, when the Verde & Black were eliminated by LAFC.
Austin won each regular season meeting against LAFC this year by a 1-0 scoreline. Both winning goals came via headers off corner kicks – in the away fixture in March, Owen Wolff assisted Guilherme Biro, and Wolff was the scorer at Q2 Stadium just a few weeks ago.
Wednesday’s Game 1 should be another close contest as both sides look to take the advantage into Game 2 at Q2 Stadium on Sunday, November 2 (TICKETS).
LAFC Outlook
LAFC enter the playoffs as one of the in-form teams in MLS, despite their recent loss to Austin and a draw at Colorado on Decision Day. The addition of superstar attacker Son Heung-Min in the summer transfer window sparked a six-match winning streak which lifted the team to the third seed in the Western Conference.
Led by Son (9 goals, 3 assists in 10 games) and Denis Bouanga (24 goals and 9 assists in 31 games), LAFC had the league’s third best attack this season. The duo scored 16 of the team’s 18 goals during the aforementioned winning streak.
LAFC was excellent at BMO Stadium this season, picking up 35 points and conceding the fewest home goals (13) of any team in MLS. Austin will need to repeat the feat of winning in LA at least once during the series if they are to advance past the California club.
