Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC is coming off a 3-2 win against El Paso Locomotive in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday night. The VERDE & Black were trailing 2-0 going into halftime but ultimately turned things around late in the second half scoring three goals in just six minutes and 39 seconds. Brandon Vazquez played a role in all three goals, scoring two himself (both assisted by Owen Wolff) and setting up Myrto Uzuni for the other.
Austin now turns their attention back to MLS play and the team’s first away trip to Cincinnati in club history. The two clubs have only faced each other once before, back in 2022 when the VERDE & Black defeated Cincinnati 5-0 at Q2 Stadium. Austin has a record of 11-6-3 against Eastern Conference teams since that match.
Austin will look to ride the momentum from the intense match against El Paso and secure three points in their first of three road games in May.
FC Cincinnati Outlook
FC Cincinnati currently sits in third place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 7-3-1. FC Cincinnati is not participating in the U.S. Open Cup, allowing them to avoid a midweek match ahead of Saturday’s matchup with Austin.
FC Cincinnati fell 1-0 against New York City FC at Citi Field last Sunday evening, ending their five-game winning streak. New York City FC opened the scoring early in the first half, with Julian Fernandez sneaking a shot past FCC keeper Roman Celentano in the 10th minute of the match.
Kévin Denkey and Evander form a dangerous attacking duo with both players having already scored six goals this season. One key to victory for the VERDE & Black will be keeping those two quiet throughout the match.
