Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC fell 2-0 against San Diego FC last Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium. After a combative first half left both sides feeling the pressure to find the breakthrough, Austin had a chance at the beginning of the second half with a header on target by Brandon Vazquez. San Diego eventually found the back of the net though and secured three points with a second goal in stoppage time while the Verde & Black played with 10 men.
Austin kicks off the second half of its season this weekend against the Rapids, and though the Verde & Black find themselves in a tough patch of form, there is still everything to play for. Austin is currently out of the playoff spots on goal difference alone and is just six points behind fourth-place Portland. Austin has already played all four of the current top four teams in the Western Conference twice each in what was a difficult early stretch of schedule.
ATXFC fans will fondly remember the team’s two previous away wins in Colorado, including a 3-1 triumph that marked the first win in Club history back in April 2021.
Colorado Rapids Outlook
Colorado Rapids fell 2-1 away against Portland Timbers last Wednesday night after going down to 10-men in the 67th minute, and they weren’t in action over the weekend. Despite taking the lead in first half, the tide turned coming out of halftime. The Timbers equalized in the first 15 minutes of the second half and later took advantage of being a man up to secure all three points.
It's been a rollercoaster of a season so far for Colorado, as the Rapids sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with a record of 6-6-4. Colorado has two home defeats in eight matches to date in 2025 with DICK’s Sporting Goods Park proving to be a tough place for opponents to find results.
Colorado midfielder Djordje Mihailovic has been a dangerous asset for the Rapids, netting seven goals across all competitions this year. Forward Rafa Navarro has also been a key contributor with five goals. Colorado will be without starting goalkeeper Zack Steffen who was called to international duty with the U.S. Men’s National Team.
