Austin FC Outlook

Austin FC contended with midweek action this week, drawing 1-1 draw against Atlanta United at Q2 Stadium. Brandon Vazquez gave ATX the lead early in the second half, scoring a stunning free kick to the top right corner of the net. Vazquez has found a fine patch of form, scoring four goals in his last three matches. Atlanta, though, eventually tied the match in stoppage time.

The VERDE & Black now turn their attention to Vancouver. The two recently met, just a month ago, with the Whitecaps claiming the win in Canada. Austin will be eager to avenge that result and collect three points against the current leaders of the Western Conference.

A positive result on Saturday would boost momentum leading into Austin’s U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against in-state rivals Houston Dynamo FC on Wednesday, continuing one of the busiest months in Club history.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Outlook

Vancouver Whitecaps currently sit in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 8-1-3. Vancouver has lost only once this season, back in late March against Chicago Fire FC at BC Place.

Vancouver will be the more rested side as they did not play in a midweek match in what has been a busy month of May across the league. The ‘Caps most recently played a comeback 2-2 draw against LAFC last Sunday night at home, extending their club record unbeaten run to 11 matches in all competitions.

Brian White continues to be a dangerous asset for Vancouver, scoring thirteen (13) goals this season across all competitions. He is tied for the MLS lead with eight goals. The Whitecaps are looking to stay hot ahead of the Concacaf Champions Cup Final, in which they’ll travel to face Cruz Azul of Liga MX on June 1.
