Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC continues the playoff hunt this weekend looking to make it three consecutive home wins in league play. The Verde & Black beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 and Seattle Sounders 2-1 in their last two MLS matches at Q2 Stadium, putting the team on the brink of clinching a spot in the postseason for the second time in Club history on Saturday night.
Austin turns its attention to St. Louis City SC knowing that a win or a draw will get them over the line, while a win will secure finishing in the top seven and avoiding the play-in game. The last time these two teams met was in late March. Austin shut out St. Louis 1-0 on the road, getting its goal in the 33rd minute via a close-range shot by Myrto Uzuni.
Goalkeeper Brad Stuver – who recently signed a two-year contract extension with Austin FC – has a chance to set a new league record for the most saves in a five-season span. He’ll accomplish the feat with two more saves.
St. Louis City SC Outlook
St. Louis City SC fell 3-0 at home to LAFC last Saturday. Denis Bouanga opened the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by a Son Heung-Min brace to bring back three points for the visitors.
St. Louis sits at 13th place in the Western Conference and is officially eliminated from playoff contention, but that hasn’t stopped the team from picking up recent results on the road. Its last two away games were both wins, first over Montréal and then against San Jose. Prior to those two victories, St. Louis had just one away win all season.
João Klauss is the team’s top scorer and is already a name ATXFC fans will be wary of, as he has two previous match-winning goals against the Verde & Black. Marcel Hartel and Eduard Löwen are other dangerous players in attack to be on the lookout for.
