Austin FC Outlook
The Verde & Black will look for a road victory in their next match after coming up short at home in a 2-1 defeat against FC Dallas on Sunday night. 18-year-old Austin FC Academy product Ervin Torres created a bright spot in the loss, scoring his first career MLS goal to tie the game 1-1 in the 57th minute. In doing so, Torres became the second youngest goalscorer in Club history behind only Owen Wolff.
Austin will now head to the Pacific Northwest to square up with Seattle for the second time in the last month. In their first matchup on July 22, Austin defended home turf in a 3-1 victory. Myrto Uzuni and Christian Ramirez scored in the 86th and 92nd minutes respectively to secure all three points, with Torres assisting both of those late goals.
After four straight matches played at home across MLS and Leagues Cup, Austin will play an away match for the first time since August 1. ATXFC has earned a result in 2 of its last 3 visits to Lumen Field, winning there in 2023 and drawing in 2024.
Seattle Sounders FC Outlook
Seattle continues its own busy slate at Lumen Field after falling there 2-0 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday. Late goals from Rayan Elloumi and Thomas Müller gave Vancouver the victory and Seattle its seventh consecutive loss in regular season play.
Despite that difficult stretch, Head Coach Brian Schmetzer’s squad is only one point out of the MLS Cup Playoff places and is looking to punch their ticket to the postseason for the third time in four years. Paul Rothrock is leading the way offensively with five goals, including one in the team’s defeat at Q2 Stadium in July. Overall though, the team’s attack has struggled, averaging the second-fewest goals per game in the league.
That has been offset at the other end by a strong defense which is tied for fourth-fewest goals conceded per match in MLS. Whoever finds the net first will have a distinct advantage in Wednesday night’s matchup.
