Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC is coming off a 2-0 shutout win on the road against Colorado Rapids last Saturday night. ATXFC made their mark early on, with Mikkel Desler netting his first MLS goal to give Austin the lead. In the second half, the VERDE & Black secured three points following an Owen Wolff corner kick which deflected in off Colorado’s Rafael Navarro. Brad Stuver made a total of five saves in the match in what was Austin’s seventh clean sheet of the season, tied for third-most in the league.
Following Saturday’s victory, the VERDE & Black now find themselves sitting above the playoff line in seventh place in the Western Conference heading into a cross-conference matchup against the Red Bulls. The two have previously met twice, most recently away at Sports Illustrated Stadium in 2023. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with ATXFC finding the equalizer right before the half.
Austin will look to continue its momentum and secure three points in front of its home fans before its first week without a match this season, as MLS pauses to allow room for international competition.
New York Red Bulls Outlook
New York Red Bulls weren’t in action last weekend, most recently playing against Atlanta United at the end of May. New York secured its third win in a row in that match with a 2-0 victory at Sports Illustrated Stadium. NYRB took the lead early on in the third minute, making it the fastest scored goal by Red Bulls this season. The action in the first half didn’t stop there as NYRB doubling their lead in the 29th minute, ending ATL’s hopes of securing points on the road.
NYRB currently sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 8-6-3. The Red Bulls started this season slowly after reaching the MLS Cup Final in 2024 but recently have found their footing. Their most notable victory came back in early May, defeating a struggling LA Galaxy side 7-0 at home.
New York Red Bulls have struggled on the road with a record of 1-5-2. Their sole win was against D.C. United in May. It’ll be up to the VERDE & Black to take advantage of that trend and spoil their visitors’ newfound hot streak.
