Austin FC Outlook

Austin FC fell 2-0 against Houston Dynamo FC Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium. Austin had a few close chances in the first half, most notably when Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond saved Myrto Uzuni’s shot from within the Dynamo box.

Austin FC is currently sitting in 3rd place in the MLS Western Conference, with a record of 5-1-4. Austin now turns their attention to Minnesota United FC, the first fixture of a very busy month of May. The Verde & Black are set to play either eight or nine matches in a 29-day stretch this month, including seven in league play.

The last time Austin and Minnesota met was back in June 2024 at Allianz Field, where Austin shutout Minnesota 1-0. Austin’s victory came thanks to Diego Rubio who scored the lone goal in the first half.

Minnesota United FC Outlook

Minnesota United FC currently sits in fourth place in the Western Conference with a record of 4-2-4. Their two road wins came earlier in the season against San Jose Earthquakes and New York City FC.

Minnesota fell 3-1 against Vancouver Whitecaps at Allianz Field last Sunday afternoon in their first home loss of the season, ending the Loons’ eight-game unbeaten streak ended. Vancouver opened the scoring early in the second half and quickly found two more before the 70th minute. Eventually, Minnesota midfielder Wil Trapp broke through in the 80th minute to provide some consolation.

All four previous meetings between these two sides at Q2 Stadium have been decided by a one-goal margin, and fans should expect another close encounter this weekend.
