Austin FC Outlook

Austin comes off a two-week break in good form. The Verde & Black are 4-1-1 in league play since the start of June and have lost just twice in their last 13 matches in all competitions. That run has helped them move into seventh place in the Western Conference, with a four-point gap to the playoff line and either one or two games in hand on most of the teams around them.

The Houston match is the first of four in August which can further bolster Austin’s postseason chances. ATXFC already hosted the Dynamo once this season, earning a 3-1 win in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 back in May.

Including that victory, Austin has come out on top in six of its seven all-time meetings against Houston at Q2 Stadium, its best home record against any single opponent. The team will look to continue that trend and collect a third straight win this Saturday night.

Houston Dynamo FC Outlook

Houston enters this weekend in 11th place in the Western Conference on 27 points, six behind Austin. The Dynamo took part in Leagues Cup, exiting the tournament with losses to Liga MX opponents Tigres, Mazatlán, and Pachuca.

U.S. international midfielder Jack McGlynn has been the key man for Houston this campaign. McGlynn has three goals and five assists while Ezequiel Ponce leads the team with seven goals.

The Dynamo like to have the ball, ranking eighth in MLS with an average of 52.9 percent possession. But the team’s 3.5 shots on target per match are second-to-last in the league. Head Coach Ben Olsen’s side will look to convert time on the ball into more chances vs. Austin and beyond as they push for the playoffs.
