Austin FC drew 1-1 with Minnesota United FC on Saturday night at Allianz Field. Defender Žan Kolmanič, who has been with Austin since the start of the team’s inaugural season, scored his first career goal for the Verde & Black.
Austin fell behind early when Michael Boxall scored from a header but responded well to equalize just 11 minutes later. Kolmanič’s goal was a thing of beauty as Jon Gallagher, Osman Bukari, and Myrto Uzuni quickly worked the ball from back to front and the Slovenian fullback finished the counterattack with an accurate left-footed strike.
The second half was closely contested and Austin stuck to their tasks defensively to earn an important road result. Mikkel Desler made his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury on March 8, coming on as a substitute in the 85th minute.
Goal-Scoring Summary
MIN (1-0) – Michael Boxall (assisted by Nicolás Romero) 16’
ATX (1-1) – Žan Kolmanič (assisted by Myrto Uzuni, Osman Bukari) 27’
