Austin FC II Signs Goalkeeper Eric López

Austin FC II announced today the team signed goalkeeper Eric López to its MLS NEXT Pro roster. López, 23, joins Austin FC II on a one-year deal through the end of the 2023 season with a Club option for the 2024 season. He will participate with the Austin FC first team during the 2023 preseason.

“Eric is a highly-skilled young goalkeeper with past experience as a starter at the USL Championship level,” said Austin FC Director of Player Personnel Sean Rubio. “We’re excited to welcome him to Austin.”

A native of Westminster, California, López is a product of the LA Galaxy academy. He began his professional career at age 15, becoming at the time the youngest-ever player to sign a professional USL contract when he joined LA Galaxy II in 2014. He went on to make 65 total appearances for LA Galaxy II, including 21 during the 2022 season. He kept five (5) clean sheets and made 68 saves in 2022.

López, who stands at 6’2”, is a former U.S. Men’s Youth National Team player. He was the youngest member of the U.S. U-17 roster which included Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He made a total of 14 youth international appearances at various age levels.

Austin FC II will train and operate alongside the Austin FC first team and academy teams out of St. David’s Performance Center. Further player signings will be announced throughout the coming months in addition to more details on scheduling and competition format.
