4ATX’s Verde Leaders closed out the year with a special Community Day centered on Mental Health Awareness Month. The event focused on preparing young leaders—physically and mentally—to show up as their best selves, on and off the pitch.
Attendees scrimmaged, participated in Team Circle, and heard from Austin FC player CJ Fodrey, who shared his personal matchday mindset. He spoke about FaceTiming family, grounding himself by walking barefoot on the pitch, visualizing positive plays, and using physical reminders to reset after tough moments.
As part of the Verde Leaders curriculum, which blends soccer with mindfulness, Social Emotional Learning, and restorative practices, youth are encouraged to build mental strength alongside physical skills.
Each participant also reflected on ways to empower themselves and their communities moving forward.
