On March 23rd, the Wooldridge School Park mini-pitch in North Austin got a fresh surface thanks to 4ATX Foundation and Austin Parks Foundation as part of a shared investment through the Verde Pitch Alliance, a $2M investment in free, public soccer spaces across Central Texas.

Volunteers came together to assemble the new SnapSports modular tiles while refreshing the surrounding park with trash pickup and mulching. The upgraded surface uses patented technology to increase quality of play, safety, and longevity, keeping this community hub accessible for families who come together through soccer.

Constructed in 2020, the Wooldridge mini-pitch was the first state-of-the-art soccer mini-pitch brought to Central Texas by 4ATX, and an estimated 150,000 residents live within walking and biking distance. The space is critical to 4ATX staying on track to reach its goal of 1,000,000 Central Texans living within 3 miles of a 4ATX soccer space by 2030.

“If you pass by the Wooldridge mini-pitch any day of the week, you’ll find generations of Rundberg residents connecting through soccer,” said Kaitlin Mauro, Executive Director of 4ATX Foundation. “We’re proud to partner with Austin Parks Foundation to deepen our investment and ensure families can continue to play for years to come.”

“We are always grateful for continued investment in our parks and are proud to partner with 4ATX in a way that helps make quality soccer spaces more accessible for young athletes,” said Colin Wallis, CEO of Austin Parks Foundation. “Improving and refreshing our most loved spaces is a big part of our work at Austin Parks Foundation, and the Wooldridge mini-pitch is a great example of how that support can bring communities together through play.”

The pitch was originally built through an investment from 4ATX Foundation, Austin FC, U.S. Soccer Foundation and St. David’s HealthCare. The refresh was made possible through another shared investment by the Verde Pitch Alliance, helping keep free and public soccer spaces open for Central Texas families to play and connect in their neighborhoods.
