Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC comes into this Saturday night match at home after a Wednesday battle on the West Coast, where the Verde & Black defeated Seattle Sounders FC 2-1. Facundo Torres and Guilherme Biro found the net in the second half to secure the win, anchored by Damian Las’ six-save performance on his MLS debut in goal.
Austin now has one more regular season match at home before traveling to New Jersey to face Toluca in the Leagues Cup Quarterfinals. They will host a Philadelphia team that holds an identical record of 5-5-10.
Several Austin FC players were rested for the Seattle match, including leading goal scorer Myrto Uzuni. ATXFC will look to use that freshness and the momentum of Wednesday night’s win to continue a strong run of form that has seen the team win 3 of its last 5 matches in all competitions.Â
Philadelphia Union Outlook
Philadelphia will come into Q2 Stadium off the back of a 2-2 draw at home with Inter Miami CF. After an early goal from Philadelphia’s Indiana Vassilev, Miami responded with two goals of their own including one from Lionel Messi which marked his 13th of the season. Center back Niel Pierre tied the game once again in the 58th minute to earn Philadelphia a point.
Before their match with Miami, Philadelphia had won each of their last four regular season matches since returning from the World Cup break. That win streak saw goals in three consecutive matches for former UCLA star Milan Iloski, who has increased his team-high regular season goal total to 10.
Despite their recent form, Philadelphia is still currently outside the playoff positions in 13th place in the Eastern Conference. Interim Head Coach Ryan Richter will know his side needs to keep picking up points to climb above the line and reach the postseason.
