Austin FC Outlook

Austin FC is in the midst of a busy stretch of five games in 15 days. The Toronto match will be the third of those five and comes on the heels of two narrow 2-1 defeats. North of the border, ATXFC will look to recapture the momentum it had from a pair of strong recent performances against LAFC and Inter Miami.

Austin is no stranger to TFC having matched up against them twice before. The home team won both previous encounters, with Toronto doing so in 2024 and the VERDE & Black claiming three points in 2023 at Q2 Stadium. Both games were decided by a single-goal margin, suggesting another tight battle could be in store Saturday.

Having played Tuesday night ahead of this match, ATXFC will be away again next Wednesday at San Jose before returning home to host in-state rivals Houston on April 25. Though dealing with short turnarounds, it’s a run of fixtures in quick succession which offers Austin a chance to pick up points and climb the table.

Toronto FC Outlook

Toronto FC is coming off a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati last Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. The Reds’ lone goal came late in the second half, after Cincinnati was reduced to 10 men. Although Toronto started this season with back-to-back away defeats, they are unbeaten in five matches since, including two wins and two draws at home.

That run of results has the Reds sitting in sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference, though they could be even higher had they not conceded stoppage time equalizers in both of those aforementioned home draws.

Toronto newcomer and MLS veteran Dániel Sallói has been essential to Toronto’s form thus far. The longtime SKC man has two goals and an assist under his belt in six starts. The team’s other splashy offseason addition was U.S. Men’s National Team forward Josh Sargent, who notched his first TFC goal and assist in a comeback win over Colorado on April 4.
