Austin FC announced today that David Booth and Garheng Kong, both of whom reside in Austin, have acquired non-controlling minority stakes in the Club from Pixiu Sports and joined Austin FC’s ownership group. Pixiu Sports and all pre-existing Austin FC owners remain members of the ownership group. Austin FC Chairman, Majority Owner, and Founder Anthony Precourt retains majority ownership and operating control of the Club.

David Booth
David Booth is the Founder and Chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors, a global investment manager headquartered in Austin, and the author of Stay Calm: Learn to Embrace Uncertainty in Investing and Life. Under David’s leadership, Dimensional has grown from a small business he launched from the spare bedroom of his Brooklyn brownstone apartment to a global firm managing more than $1 trillion in assets.
A trailblazer in the financial world, David helped create one of the first index funds in the 1970s and has spent his career applying groundbreaking financial theory and research to the practical world of asset management.
David earned degrees in economics and business from the University of Kansas, followed by an MBA from the University of Chicago. He has been a strong supporter of both schools. The University of Chicago Booth School of Business is named in David’s honor, and he has made a series of major gifts supporting academics and athletics at the University of Kansas, including the largest gift in the university’s history. As a boy, David served as an usher at Jayhawk football and basketball games and has been a passionate sports fan since.
A longtime Austin resident and proud supporter of the Verde & Black, David has been an Austin FC season ticket holder since Q2 Stadium opened. He strongly believes in the role sports can play in bringing people together and keeping communities connected. David is also an avid art collector and supporter of the arts; the David Booth Conservation Center and Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York is dedicated to preserving the museum’s collection.
Garheng Kong
Garheng Kong founded HealthQuest Capital in 2012 and serves as its Managing Partner. HealthQuest is a healthcare-focused private investment firm providing growth capital to companies seeking to improve value and outcomes across the healthcare system.
A physician, scientist, and engineer by training, Garheng has more than two decades of experience investing in innovative healthcare companies and has led more than 40 companies to successful IPO or M&A exits. He serves as Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director of Labcorp and on the boards of Smith & Nephew, Xeris Biopharma, IKS Health, Duke University Health System, the Duke University Board of Trustees, Dell Children’s Foundation, UT Medicine, UT President’s Commercial Advisory Board, and the Austin Healthcare Council.
Garheng is an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow, Kauffman Fellows Mentor, and member of YPO. He was named a Top 25 Healthcare Investor by GrowthCap in 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2026 and received the publication’s Healthcare Investor of the Year award for 2024. In 2023, BoardProspects recognized Garheng as one of the Top 30 Asian American and Pacific Islander Board Members in the U.S.
Garheng earned undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences from Stanford University, where he attended on an athletic scholarship. He later earned an MD, PhD, and MBA from Duke University, graduating at the top of his class in each instance. His early career included roles at GlaxoSmithKline, McKinsey & Company, TherOx, Intersouth Partners, and Sofinnova Investments.
Garheng and his wife, a physician and board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist, have three children. A former nationally ranked volleyball player, he remains an avid sports fan and “foodie.”
