Austin FC II tied 1-1 with Ventura County FC on Saturday night, and picked up an extra point courtesy of a 3-1 penalty shootout result in which goalkeeper Erik Lauta saved two VCFC attempts. Diego Abarca scored his first goal of the season in the match.
Ventura County FC found the net early to take the lead with a goal by Troy Elgersma in the 19th minute. Despite a few chances, Austin FC II was unable to find the equalizer before the half. Â
The Verde & Black eventually got the goal their play deserved when Abarca's header found the net. Patrick Cayelli tallied his first career assist on the play. Â
After the match finished level, Lauta came up big in the ensuing shootout to send Austin FC II home with the extra point.Â
