The Verde & Black are off to a fantastic start to their 2022 season, but they aren’t the only soccer team in Austin to support this season. FC Austin Elite, a women’s team competing in United Women’s Soccer’s Southwest Conference, is set to kick off its 2022 season in April.
To support the growth of women’s soccer in Central Texas during Women’s History Month, Austin FC and Michelob Ultra have donated $5,000 to FC Austin Elite. Austin FC and Michelob Ultra also hosted FC Austin Elite at ATXFC’s March 20 match at Q2 Stadium against Seattle Sounders FC, and honored the club captains at halftime with a videoboard shot and PA read.
“We're honored to be recognized by Austin FC and Michelob Ultra for our work to grow the women's game and provide a platform for women to play soccer at a high level of competition in Austin,” said FC Austin Elite General Manager Danny Woodfill. “This donation will go a long way toward helping us have a successful 2022 season.”
FC Austin Elite was founded in 2015 to create high-level playing opportunities for women in the Austin soccer community. As the club enters its eighth season, it has become a home for former professional players and has served as a platform for some of its players to move to clubs internationally or represent their national teams.
The club plays its home matches at the 2,000-seat Elite Field in Round Rock. More information on the team’s schedule, roster, and season tickets is available at www.fcaustinelite.com and @FCAustinElite on social media.
