Austin FC Head Coach Josh Wolff and midfielder Diego Fagundez were named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Week, with defender Julio Cascante named to the Team of the Week bench following Austin’s 4-1 win over league leaders LAFC on Friday night at Q2 Stadium. Wolff and Fagundez both earn their fourth Team of the Week selections of the season, while Cascante earns his first.
Wolff coached the team to its seventh home win of the season, and under his leadership, Austin has 20 more points than it did at the end of last season with seven (7) matches still remaining. That season-to-season points improvement is already the second-best in MLS history. The team currently leads MLS with 59 goals scored.
Fagundez contributed to three (3) goals vs. LAFC, opening the scoring with a fantastic free kick in the 32ndminute. He then assisted a pair of goals in the second half, bringing his season total to a career-best 12 assists to go along with six (6) goals.
Cascante was a key contributor in defense, winning 5 of 6 aerial duels and 9 of 10 duels overall. He also won 3 of his 4 tackles, made three (3) interceptions and three (3) clearances.
Austin FC returns to action on Wednesday night when the Club will host Portland Timbers at Q2 Stadium. The LAFC match marked Austin's 30th-consecutive home sellout with an attendance of 20,738.
