The business end of the 2023 Major League Soccer regular season is quickly approaching. With 11 matches left, Austin FC sits in fifth place in the Western Conference on 32 points. After Decision Day on October 21, the top nine teams in the Western Conference will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The top four teams will have home-field advantage in the newly formatted, best-of-three first round matchups. The fifth, sixth, and seventh place finishers will avoid the play-in game, which will involve a single elimination match between the sides that finish in eighth and ninth.

Between the resumption of league play on August 20 and the international break on September 3, the Verde & Black have four MLS matches, three of which are on the road. Austin makes its return to MLS action on Sunday the 20th, when the team will take on Western Conference leaders St. Louis City SC at CITYPARK.

Six days later, Austin has a chance to decide Copa Tejas in their favor. A victory over FC Dallas at Toyota Field on August 26 would see the Verde & Black lift the supporter-created trophy for a second consecutive year. The team then has a midweek home match against Seattle Sounders on August 30 before a first-ever trip to Massachusetts, where Josh Wolff’s side will face New England Revolution on September 2.

Following the New England match, Austin has a 15-day break until its next match, a September 17 game against Portland Timbers at Q2 Stadium. The team then heads back to the east coast for a Wednesday road meeting with New York Red Bulls.

The four-match late September and early October stretch features three home fixtures for the Verde & Black, against LA Galaxy (September 24), D.C. United (October 4), and LAFC (October 7). There’s a road trip to Colorado on September 30 in the midst of that run, and the team’s final game of the regular season on MLS Decision Day is an away meeting vs. San Jose Earthquakes on October 21.
