The Verde & Black started well, putting Toluca under pressure and growing into the game. But their momentum was halted when they were reduced to 10 men in the moments before halftime.
Toluca took the lead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, and despite a valiant effort and a few close chances for Austin, the Liga MX side scored again in stoppage time to seal the result.
