Austin FC fell 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Austin had a couple of opportunities to score during the first 45 minutes, with Dani Pereira and Emiliano Rigoni coming close to an opening goal. Colorado took the lead in the 41st minute when Andreas Maxsø scored from Connor Ronan's corner kick at the back post.
In the second half, the Verde & Black pressed forward in search of an equalizer. The team’s best chance arrived in the 71st minute, when Will Bruin attempted a header that was blocked by Rapids goalkeeper Marko Ilic. CJ Fodrey managed to retrieve the ball after the block and passed it back into the six-yard box, where Rigoni’s header was also saved by Ilic and Bruin’s follow-up flew over the bar.
Austin continued to push in the closing stages but were ultimately unable to find the tying goal.
