Austin FC fought back from an early deficit to earn a 3-2 away win over the Colorado Rapids on Monday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The result was the Club’s third-consecutive road victory, and keeps Austin in second place in the Supporters’ Shield standings.

The Verde & Black found themselves two goals down after 22 minutes, courtesy of a volleyed strike from Lalas Abubakar and a breakaway by Jonathan Lewis. It didn’t take Austin long to respond though, as Ethan Finlay halved the deficit in the 28th-minute.

An accurate long pass from Jon Gallagher found Finlay, who lofted a shot over Colorado goalkeeper William Yarbrough with his first touch. Sebastián Driussi then scored the equalizer with the last play of the first half, a lovely cushioned finish from another Gallagher assist.

Maxi Urruti thought he had given Austin the lead in the 52nd-minute, only to see his goal disallowed by VAR. Urruti had the ball in the back of the net again seven minutes later, and it stood the second time around, as the Argentine fired in a low finish after a clever dummy from Driussi.

Kipp Keller was sent off for a second yellow card offense in the 75th minute, but even with 10 men, the Verde & Black remained difficult to break down, and saw out the match to claim the three points.

THREE THINGS

  • EL DÉCIMO DE DRIUSSI: Driussi’s goal was his 10th of 2022, tied for most in MLS. The MVP-candidate becomes the first player in Club history to score double-digit goals in a single season.
  • COMEBACK KINGS: For the fourth time this season, ATXFC erased a two-goal deficit to earn points (two wins, two draws).
  • ON THE ROAD: The Verde & Black now have 19 points from away matches this season, tied for most in MLS.
