Austin FC fell to Portland Timbers 2-0 on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium. The team is back in action in just three days’ time, as the Verde & Black head west to face Real Salt Lake.
Austin started well and was awarded a penalty in the 13th minute, but Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis saved the ensuing attempt. Austin continued to dominate the flow of the game throughout the first half, creating a flurry of chances and outshooting their opponents 7-1 before the Timbers scored with their first shot on target moments before halftime.
As Verde & Black pressed forward looking for an equalizer after the break, Portland found a second goal from the penalty spot in the 66th minute to confirm the result.
