Austin FC Outlook

By the time Austin FC kicks off in St. Louis, it will have been 35 days since the Verde & Black last played a league match. The team was in a strong run of form at the start of the Leagues Cup break, going 4-1-1 in its final six matches before the MLS regular season paused.

That period included three consecutive home victories over Dallas, Houston, and Kansas City, as well as a statement 4-1 road win over Minnesota - the first time in Austin FC history that the club scored four goals on the road.

Victory over St. Louis on Sunday could lift Austin within one point of fourth-place Seattle as the playoff race begins to heat up.

St. Louis City SC Outlook

St. Louis enters Sunday’s match as Western Conference leaders, nine points ahead of Austin FC. No team in the conference has more points at home than St. Louis’ 25, but they did drop points in two of their last four league home games.

Though they exited Leagues Cup in the group stage, the team won four of its five MLS matches before the break, including three shutout victories. Nicholas Gioacchini paces the attack with eight goals, while Eduard Löwen leads all St. Louis players with 12 goal contributions (six goals, six assists).

Goalkeeper Roman Bürki started for the MLS All-Star team against Arsenal last month and is having a solid campaign, anchoring a defense which has allowed 10 goals in 12 home matches in 2023.
