Austin FC Outlook
Austin took a point from its road match last weekend in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Toronto FC. Facundo Torres scored his first of the season after an excellent build-up sequence, adding a goal to his tally of four assists. Jon Bell and Christian Ramirez both grabbed their second goals of the season.
ATXFC will now face another opponent against which it has a history of high-scoring games. Of the 11 all-time league meetings between Austin and San Jose, 10 have featured multiple goals and seven have featured four or more total goals. Last season in this matchup, the home side won both regular season encounters as the Verde & Black grabbed a 3-1 victory at Q2 Stadium in August, in addition to their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal success on penalties at PayPal Park in July.
Austin’s aim Wednesday night will be to limit San Jose’s dangerous attackers while continuing their own recent form in front of goal. In the team’s last four matches, they have scored seven goals by seven different players.
San Jose Earthquakes Outlook
The Quakes have come flying out of the gates to begin the 2026 season, with a 7-0-1 record and a defense that is tied for the best in MLS with only three goals allowed. Most recently, San Jose took apart LAFC in Los Angeles on Sunday night, winning 4-1 behind a brace by Ousseni Bouda.
While Bouda leads the team with four goals, Niko Tsakiris’ seven goal contributions (2g, 5a) have made him a standout player thus far this year for San Jose. Former German national team and RB Leipzig winger Timo Werner arrived in the offseason and has hit the ground running with a goal and three assists in only 276 minutes.
San Jose is currently tied atop the early-season Supporters’ Shield standings with Vancouver on 21 points, and since the Whitecaps are not in action Wednesday night, the Quakes will be motivated by the opportunity to claim sole possession of first place with a result against the Verde & Black.
