Austin FC Outlook

After a 2-0 loss against Portland Timbers Wednesday night, Austin quickly turns its attention to an opportunity to bounce back against RSL. Despite the defeat, Austin is 6-2-3 in its last 11 matches and finds itself in 5th place in the Western Conference as the midway point of the season approaches on Saturday.

Last season, the Verde & Black earned a 2-1 road win over RSL thanks to goals from Owen Wolff and Jon Gallagher. Austin fans will also fondly remember the playoff meeting between the two sides, in which ATXFC prevailed in a penalty shootout for the Club’s first-ever postseason win.

Though the RSL match is the third in eight days for the Verde & Black, the team has two weeks off before its next game on June 15, making three points all the more valuable to continue momentum through the break.

Real Salt Lake Outlook

Real Salt Lake is currently in first place in the MLS Western Conference with a record of 8-6-2. RSL are coming off a 1-1 draw against Seattle Sounders away at Lumen Field on Wednesday night. Their sole goal came from Andrés Gómez in the ninth minute of second half stoppage time.

That late equalizer marks the third consecutive match in which RSL has come back to either win or draw. RSL’s 30 points are the most in club history through the first 16 matches of a season.

RSL captain Chicho Arango has 13 goals and eight assists to his name and is leading the MLS Golden Boot race. As a team, Salt Lake’s 31 goals are second-most in MLS, trailing only Inter Miami. The team is on a 12-game unbeaten run entering Saturday’s match, and it will be up to the Verde & Black to find a way to snap that streak.
