Austin FC Outlook
Though Austin is no longer in contention for a playoff place, the squad will be motivated to finish the season on a high note and to possibly play spoiler to the postseason hopes of LA and Portland in its final two games. Jorge Alastuey was a bright spot in Wednesday night’s defeat to RSL, scoring his first career MLS goal. The young Spanish midfielder was also named a finalist for MLS NEXT Pro MVP for his performances with Austin FC II earlier in the year.
The trip to Dignity Health Sports Park was a successful one for the Verde & Black last season as they emerged with a 2-1 victory. Myrto Uzuni found the net in both of Austin’s most recent two matches against the Galaxy, and he and Christian Ramirez are each one goal away from reaching double digits in league play.
ATXFC has been strong on its travels recently with a record of 4-1-1 in its last six road games. The team will look to add another victory to that tally on Saturday.
LA Galaxy Outlook
The Galaxy weren’t in action on Wednesday night and will come into Saturday on a full week’s rest. The team has been in good form recently with three wins, three draws, and one loss in its last seven matches, and hasn’t lost at Dignity Health Sports Park since July 22.
LA features a multifaceted offense with three players having recorded double-digit goal contributions this season. Marco Reus (eight goals, 12 assists), Joseph Paintsil (seven goals, five assists), and Gabriel Pec (five goals, five assists) are all key attackers while João Klauss is the top goalscorer with nine goals.
With Wednesday night’s results around the league while the Galaxy were inactive, the team now finds itself on the wrong side of the playoff line. LA occupies 10th place in the Western Conference but is only one point behind ninth place and two points behind both seventh and eighth. They will enter Saturday knowing maximum points are needed in a crowded race.
