Austin FC Outlook

Austin heads to LA for the second time in three weeks aiming to pick up its second away victory of the season. The team will hope to maintain the defensive solidity it displayed last weekend, when it became the first team to shut out Vancouver in an MLS match so far this season in a 0-0 draw with the Whitecaps at Q2 Stadium.

Despite multiple key injuries along the backline in the early stages of 2023, the Verde & Black’s defense has performed well, helped in particular by strong outings from goalkeeper Brad Stuver and defender Leo Väisänen.

Stuver ranks third in MLS with 32 saves, and has posted a goals-against to expected-goals- against rate of -0.4. He’s also fared uniquely well against Galaxy star striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, saving a penalty kick attempt by the Mexican forward in two different matches while with Austin FC.

Though a newcomer to the league, Väisänen has adapted quickly to his new surroundings. He won 13 of his 17 aerial duels against Vancouver along with five clearances.

LA Galaxy Outlook

The Galaxy have had a tough start to the season, going winless with three points through their opening seven games. They’re not a team to be taken lightly though, with plenty of quality throughout the squad.

Behind Chicharito, who led the team with 18 goals in 2022, the midfield trio of Gaston Brugman, Marky Delgado, and Barcelona youth product Riqui Puig are capable of dictating the tempo of a match. Winger Tyler Boyd scored his first MLS goal last weekend against LAFC, and did so in some style.

LA has conceded the first goal in four of its last five games, and has lost the last three when it has done so. A quick start for either team on Saturday could be key in deciding the outcome of the match.

Possible LA Galaxy Lineup
