Austin FC Outlook

After a hard-fought battle in Seattle, Austin walked away with their first point of the season. A solid defensive display from front to back, spurred by center back pairing Matt Hedges and Julio Cascante, helped Brad Stuver earn a clean sheet on his 100th MLS regular season match for Austin.

The Verde & Black now set their sights on securing their first win of 2024 against St. Louis CITY SC. Austin will need another strong performance from Jhojan Valencia. The Colombian midfielder was named to MLS Team of the Matchday bench after his impressive performance against Seattle last Saturday. Valencia played for the full 90 minutes, making 11 recoveries, 3 interceptions and had a 90 percent passing accuracy rate. The midfielder looks to continue being a defensive wall against St. Louis.

The match vs. St. Louis is the first of two consecutive home games for Austin, marking an opportunity to establish a good early position in the standings.

St. Louis CITY SC Outlook

St. Louis ended their first MLS season at the top of the table in the Western Conference but crashed out of the playoffs in the first round. CITY SC enters their second MLS season with uncertainty in their backline due to a few injuries but that didn’t stop them from securing a 2-0 victory at CITYPARK against NYCFC last time out.

CITY SC named Célio Pompeu Man of the Match after a dominant performance last Saturday, with a goal and an assist under his belt. Forward Sam Adeniran carried over his strong goal-scoring form from the end of the 2023 season, scoring in each of the team’s opening two matches.

If the Verde & Black can limit chances for that duo, they’ll give themselves a strong chance of emerging with three points on Saturday night.
