Austin FC Outlook

Following a 2-1 win against Texas rivals FC Dallas, the Verde & Black look to continue to build momentum this Saturday. If Austin can secure a second consecutive home victory, they could rise as high as sixth in the Western Conference at this early stage of the season.

Julio Cascante found the back of the net for the second time this season in the victory over Dallas, making an immediate impact as he returned from international duty with Costa Rica to make his 100th appearance for Austin FC across all competitions. Captain Sebastián Driussi was also fit enough to play 90 minutes for the first time this season and provided an excellent assist to Diego Rubio for the match-winning goal.

Three points are a must for the Verde & Black they hit the road back-to-back away matches against St. Louis and Houston in mid-April.

San Jose Earthquakes Outlook

San Jose ventures to Texas for the second straight week, having fallen in a 2-1 loss against Houston Dynamo FC last time out. The Quakes played much of the match in Houston down a man and ended up finishing with nine. As a result, both Preston Judd and Jackson Yueill will miss the trip to Austin.

While San Jose have had a troubling start this season with only one win under their belt, which came against Seattle Sounders, Austin FC won’t be underestimating them. The Verde & Black have tied against the Earthquakes in each of their last four meetings and in five of the seven matches all-time between the two sides.

If Austin are to emerge with all three points on Saturday, they’ll need to contain attackers Cristian Espinoza and Jeremy Ebobisse. The pair led San Jose in scoring last year and already have two goals and two assists between them in 2024.
