Austin took a short trip to Frisco, Texas, last Saturday night to face in-state rivals FC Dallas. The Verde & Black walked away with a point from a scoreless stalemate, anchored by a Team of the Matchday performance from Brad Stuver in goal.
After back-to-back matches on the road, Austin returns home in hopes to extend its current seven-match unbeaten streak. The Verde & Black take on San Diego FC who sit just one point ahead of Austin in the Western Conference standings, and with the playoff line just two points above. As the season enters its homestretch, every point is crucial as only four points separate 8th place from 14th.
ATXFC won the only other meeting between the teams at Q2 Stadium in March 2025, with goals from Brandon Vazquez and Jon Gallagher.
San Diego FC Outlook
San Diego FC enters the weekend coming off a 2-2 draw against Eastern Conference side Inter Miami CF at Nu Stadium. Danish winger Anders Dreyer scored twice on the night for SDFC to help snap a three-match losing streak. Goalkeeper CJ Dos Santos ended the night with six saves and like Stuver earned an MLS Team of the Matchday selection, though he will miss Saturday’s match through international duty with Cape Verde.
Forward Marcus Ingvartsen has been a force for San Diego’s attack with 11 goals and five assists under his belt. He recently returned following an injury that occurred during SDFC’s match against Colorado Rapids and forms an effective partnership with Dreyer, who has 11 goals of his own to go with 11 assists.
San Diego likes to have the ball, recording the highest average possession in the league (59.8 percent). It will be up to Austin to disrupt their rhythm and pick up an important three points in the postseason push.
