Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC has won three of its last four league matches, with the most recent of those victories - a 2-1 win over Minnesota United on Wednesday night - lifting the Verde & Black back above the playoff line. With another home win on Saturday against RSL, Austin could end the week as high as fifth place in the Western Conference.
The team has also been garnering positive momentum from the return of many key players who had been out injured. Julio Cascante and Diego Fagundez have both worked their way back to full fitness, while last year’s MLS MVP runner-up Sebastián Driussi came off the bench to make his first appearance since April 29 on Wednesday, scoring the match-winner in the 82nd minute.
Jon Gallagher and Brad Stuver also contributed strong performances against Minnesota, with Gallagher scoring his fifth goal of the season (leading all MLS defenders) and Stuver making six saves.
Real Salt Lake Outlook
RSL have gone through a rough patch of league form recently, winning once in their last seven MLS matches. In that time though, they’ve picked up impressive away results against Portland (4-3 in the Open Cup), Minnesota (1-1), and rivals Colorado (3-2 in MLS and 1-0 in the Open Cup).
Jefferson Savarino is the team’s offensive spark plug, tallying four goals and four assists in 13 appearances. Damir Kreilach and Danny Musovski offer plenty of danger going forward as well.
Salt Lake’s road record of eight points from seven away games ranks right in the middle of the pack. They’re at their most dangerous in open play, where they’ve scored 12 of their 16 goals. Like Austin, RSL has hovered around the playoff line for much of the season, and a win on Saturday would potentially take them above it.
Possible Real Salt Lake Lineup
(4-4-2, R-L) - GK: Zac MacMath; Bode Davis, Justen Glad, Marcelo Silva, Andrew Brody; Jefferson Savarino, Braian Ojeda, Jasper Löffelsend, Rubio Rubin; Damir Kreilach, Danny Musovski
