Austin FC Outlook
Austin will look to replicate its result against Portland from earlier this season, when the Verde & Black recorded a 2-1 away win at Providence Park in August. Facundo Torres found ATXFC’s opener that day, and Oleksandr Svatok netted a dramatic late winner in stoppage time.
Recent matches have seen strong performances from Austin’s young players. Ervin Torres scored his second career goal in spectacular fashion in the team’s last match, set up by fellow Austin FC Academy product Micah Burton who was making his first career MLS start. Jorge Alastuey picked up his first career goal and assist across two games last week, and Riley Thomas entered as a substitute to make his MLS debut on Saturday.
Heading into the final match of the season, Christian Ramirez and Myrto Uzuni are both sitting on nine goals and would reach double digits if they tally a goal against the Timbers.
Portland Timbers Outlook
Portland has won three consecutive matches to climb into eighth place. The Timbers enter Saturday night knowing a win would not only see them clinch a place in the playoffs but also help them avoid the play-in round if results elsewhere go their way too. A draw or a defeat could leave them vulnerable to elimination.
Midseason addition Vincent Janssen was the driving force behind their Sunday night victory over Houston, scoring a goal himself and assisting two others. Kristoffer Velde notched his team-high 11th goal of the season in the win as well.
The Timbers rank ninth in MLS in goals scored, but 22nd in goals conceded and have kept only two clean sheets this season.
