Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC headed to South Florida last Saturday night to take on defending MLS Cup champions Inter Miami CF in the first-ever match at Miami’s Nu Stadium. Austin crashed the party, walking away with a 2-2 draw and making history when Guilherme Biro became the first-ever goalscorer at the venue.
That goal came via a corner kick, the team’s fourth set piece goal of the season. Three of those, including Saturday’s opener, have been assisted by Facundo Torres, showing the danger Austin’s newest Designated Player presents in dead ball situations. Jayden Nelson netted ATXFC’s second goal of the night, his first tally in Verde & Black.
Austin will be back home for the first time in three weeks this Saturday afternoon to take on LA Galaxy in front of the VERDE faithful. ATXFC completed a season sweep against the Galaxy last season, claiming victories both home and away. Austin will aim to pick up another win against the California club and maintain its unbeaten record at Q2 Stadium this season.
LA Galaxy Outlook
LA Galaxy comes to Austin following a midweek away match in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals against Liga MX side Toluca FC, in which they fell 4–2 at Estadio Nemesio Díez. In MLS play, LA most recently fell to Minnesota United FC 2-1 last Saturday night. The Galaxy’s sole goal came in the 57th minute, when Marco Reus received a pass from João Klauss and was initially blocked before slipping it past the goalkeeper on the second go around.
Klauss, an offseason arrival from St. Louis City SC, has been a success so far in his first season in LA. The striker has six goals and two assists in 10 games across all competitions. LA Galaxy currently sits one spot below Austin in 12th place in the MLS Western Conference. They have yet to find a victory on the road, with a draw and loss under their belt.
It’ll be up to the VERDE & Black to take advantage of the Galaxy’s tired legs and secure a positive result ahead of the team’s U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 match away at Louisville next Tuesday night.
