Austin FC OutlookÂ
Austin FC kicked off the 2026 season with a 2-2 draw against Minnesota United last Saturday night at Q2 Stadium in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,738. Brendan Hines-Ike and Myrto Uzuni were on the scoresheet for ATXFC.
Newly arrived Designated Player Facundo Torres recorded an assist seven minutes into his Austin FC debut when his corner kick delivery was headed in by Hines-Ike, tying the Club record for the fastest goal contribution by a new player. Offseason signings Jayden Nelson and Joseph Rosales also started and made notable impacts on the match.
The VERDE & Black now aim to build on an impressive all-time record against D.C. United. Austin has won all three of its matches against the club from the nation’s capital, most recently earning a 4-2 win at Audi Field last summer with the goals coming from four different scorers.
D.C. United OutlookÂ
D.C United had a busy offseason, acquiring forward Tai Baribo as a Designated Player from Philadelphia in a deal worth up to $4.6 million. D.C. also strengthened its defense signing Sean Nealis, Silvan Hefti, and Keisuke Kurokawa, who will play in front of MLS veteran goalkeeper Sean Johnson.
D.C. United started off their 2026 MLS regular season with a home victory over Philadelphia. Baribo found the net for his new club against his former one, scoring the lone goal of the match in the 23rd minute.
The Black and Red are one of the league’s most historic clubs with four MLS Cups to their name. Though they finished bottom of the Eastern Conference in 2025, they’ll be hungry to climb up the table and earn a place in the playoffs this season with a blank slate and plenty of new faces.
