The Football Association of Finland announced today the Finnish men’s national team roster for its upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying matches, with Austin FC defender Leo Väisänen named on the list. Väisänen will join Finland for its away match against Slovenia on October 14 and its home match against Kazakhstan on October 17.
Väisänen, 26, signed with Austin FC on January 4, 2023. The 6’2” center back has made 25 appearances for the Finnish men’s national team in the past, including playing in seven (7) UEFA Nations League matches, six (6) FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and one (1) match at UEFA Euro 2020.
In his first season in Austin, Väisänen has recorded 21 interceptions – tied for the team lead – and an assist in 18 appearances.
Väisänen will travel to Europe following Austin FC’s match against Los Angeles FC on October 7, and return following Finland’s match against Kazakhstan on October 17.
