Austin FC Head Coach Josh Wolff and midfielder Ethan Finlay were named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday after the Club earned a 2-1 away win over Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday night at Lumen Field. Both Wolff and Finlay earn their first Team of the Matchday selections of the 2023 season.
Missing a number of players through injury, international duty, and suspension, Wolff’s team became only the second team to score against Seattle at Lumen Field this season. Austin took a 1-0 lead into halftime, then added another goal early in the second half, which proved vital when the Sounders pulled one (1) goal back with just over 10 minutes remaining. Under Wolff’s leadership, the Verde & Black are now unbeaten in their last nine (9) matches (seven wins, two draws) when leading at halftime.
Finlay played a role in both Austin goals in the victory. He scored the opener in the 36th-minute, taking a touch to control a low pass from Adam Lundkvist and firing an accurate left-footed strike to the bottom corner. Finlay then turned provider in the 57th-minute, putting in an excellent cross which Gyasi Zardes headed in. The assist was the 50th of Finlay’s MLS career, making him the sixth active player to record at least 50 career regular season goals and 50 career regular season assists.
