On January 15, Austin FC partnered with the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through education, dialogue, and community connection.Â
Students from Texas Empowerment Academy spent the morning immersed in Dr. King’s history and impact. The day began with a guided museum visit and concluded with a reflection and conversation in the Boyd Vance Theater.Â
The centerpiece of the day was a powerful discussion led by historian and author Dr. Peniel Joseph, who engaged students in a thoughtful Q&A about Dr. King’s life, the often-overlooked dimensions of his legacy, and why athletes and sports played a meaningful role in the Civil Rights Movement.Â
This celebration was about looking back to invest forward, creating space for young leaders to learn, ask questions, and see themselves as part of the ongoing work toward a more just and connected future.
