Austin FC captain, midfielder, and Designated Player Sebastián Driussi was named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday for his performance in Austin’s 4-1 away win over Minnesota United FC on Saturday night at Allianz Field. Driussi earns his first Team of the Matchday selection of the 2023 season.
Driussi scored two (2) goals and added an assist in the Verde & Black’s emphatic road victory. He netted the team’s second goal of the match from the penalty spot just before halftime, and doubled his tally six (6) minutes into the second half with an cushioned volley from close range. Driussi's 51st-minute strike was his 50th goal contribution across all competitions for Austin FC, making him the first player in Club history to reach that milestone.
He then set up compatriot and fellow Designated Player Emiliano Rigoni for Austin’s exclamation point in second half stoppage time, picking out Rigoni with a low cross at the back post to make it 4-1.
Driussi’s season totals now stand at six (6) goals and three (3) assists, including four (4) goals and two (2) assists in his last seven (7) matches since returning from injury. In that seven-match stretch, Austin FC averaged 1.86 points per game and rose from 12th to 5th place in the MLS Western Conference.
