U.S. Soccer conducted the Round of 16 and Quarterfinal Draw for the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 11 and announced that Austin FC will host Chicago Fire FC at Q2 Stadium in the tournament’s Round of 16.

The match will be played on Wednesday, May 24 at 8 p.m. CT, and feature a live broadcast on the B/R Football YouTube Channel and B/R Football app. The match will be the first-ever competitive meeting between Austin and Chicago.

Single match tickets for the Round of 16 match went on sale to the public at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, May 12. Season Ticket Members received tickets to the match as a benefit of their membership.

The U.S. Open Cup is a historic American soccer tournament first played in 1914, which sees teams from professional, semi-pro, and amateur levels compete against one another in a single-elimination format. Austin FC reached the Round of 16 by defeating New Mexico United 2-0 on Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium. Rodney Redes and Maxi Urruti each scored for the Verde & Black in the shutout win.

Should Austin FC defeat Chicago in the Round of 16, the Club would host the winner of Houston Dynamo FC vs. Minnesota United FC in an Open Cup Quarterfinal match on June 6 or 7 at Q2 Stadium. The winner of the Open Cup receives a berth in the 2024 Concacaf Champions League, prize money, and the prestigious Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy. Draws are conducted for each round to determine matchups and hosting rights.
