Austin FC Selects Forward Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez Off MLS End-of-Year Waivers List

Austin FC announced today that the Club claimed forward Alfonso Ocampo-Chávez off the MLS End-of-Year Waivers list. The selection now gives Austin FC the ability to extend a contract offer to Ocampo-Chávez. In the event the Club and Ocampo-Chávez do not agree to terms on a contract, Austin FC retains the right of first refusal on the player.

Ocampo-Chávez, a 20-year-old California native, spent the 2022 season with Seattle Sounders FC’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Tacoma Defiance. He made 23 appearances for Tacoma in 2022, scoring nine (9) goals and tallying four (4) assists. He spent the latter part of the 2021 season on loan from Seattle with FC Pinzgau Saalfelden of the Austrian Regionalliga Salzburg, where he made 13 appearances and scored one (1) goal.

At the youth international level, Ocampo-Chávez represented the United States at the U-14, U-15, and U-17 levels. He competed for the U.S. at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2019, and was a key part of the team’s qualifying campaign as one (1) of two (2) players to appear in all seven (7) of the team’s matches at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship.
