Austin FC announced today that the Club has agreed to a cash-for-player trade with Sporting Kansas City. Austin FC receives $4.5 million and up to an additional $3.1 million in conditional performance-based incentives in exchange for midfielder Owen Wolff. Austin also retains a sell-on percentage of a potential future transfer involving Wolff.

“Owen is a terrific young player. He began his professional career here in Austin, grew a tremendous amount, and endeared himself to the fanbase,” said Austin FC Interim Head Coach Davy Arnaud. “As the Club’s first-ever Homegrown signing and youngest-ever player, Owen will always have a special place in Austin FC history.”

“While it is not an easy decision to part ways with a player of Owen’s caliber, there have been substantive discussions since December of last year whereby the Club expressed willingness to grant Owen his wish of playing elsewhere if an agreeable solution were to materialize,” added Arnaud. “Our leadership team, with the support of our ownership group, was willing to honor his wishes so long as the offer matched the quality and trajectory of the player. We feel that this is the right move for the Club as we continue to position ourselves for long-term success.”

“Austin FC will always be a special place for me. It’s where I began my career, and where I shared so many amazing moments with my teammates, my coaches, and the fans,” said Wolff. “I grew so much during my time here and I want to say thank you to everyone who played a part in that.”

Wolff initially joined the Austin FC Academy before becoming Austin FC’s first-ever Homegrown signing in September 2021 at age 16. He became the youngest player to appear in a match for the Verde & Black in the team’s 3-1 win over Sporting KC on November 3, 2021, and the Club’s youngest goalscorer at age 18 in a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on March 11, 2023.

Wolff was named to the MLS 22 Under 22 list in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In total, he recorded 10 goals and 23 assists in 147 appearances across all competitions for Austin FC, ranking second all-time in assists and fourth all-time in appearances.

Wolff will no longer occupy a U22 Initiative slot on the Austin FC roster.
