Austin FC qualified for the quarterfinals of Leagues Cup 2026 with a shootout win over Club América on Thursday night at Q2 Stadium, claiming two points off a 6-5 triumph in penalties after a 1-1 draw. The Club will now face Toluca FC in the quarterfinals and awaits the announcement of the date, time, and location of that match.
It was a physical match from the start with the teams combining for 16 fouls in the first half. However, Austin’s defensive shape was resolute, consistently frustrating the América attack.
The Liga MX side broke through via an own goal in the 49th minute, but Myrto Uzuni leveled the game in spectacular fashion in the 67th with his fourth goal of the tournament.
Neither side was able to find the net again in regulation, and ATXFC claimed the extra point on offer in the penalty shootout when Brad Stuver made the decisive save in the sixth round.
Goal-Scoring Summary
AME (0-1) – Jon Gallagher (own goal) 48’
ATX (1-1) – Myrto Uzuni (unassisted) 67’
