Austin FC erased a three-goal deficit in the second half to draw 3-3 with San Diego FC on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The result marks the first time in Club history that ATXFC has come from three goals down to earn a result, and extended the team’s unbeaten streak to eight matches.
Austin did not allow its opponents to attempt a single shot in the first half, and nearly took the lead when Besard Sabovic forced a turnover and Ervin Torres’ ensuing strike hit the post. Despite the Verde & Black largely controlling play, AnÃbal Godoy scored for the visitors five minutes into the second half, and they fell behind further through an own goal and a finish by Marcus Ingvartsen.
Austin began the comeback effort in the 73rd minute when Brandon Vazquez headed in an excellent cross by Ervin Torres, Vazquez’s first goal since returning from an ACL injury. Christian Ramirez then found the net in the 82nd and 86th minutes to earn ATXFC a vital point in its push for the playoffs.
